Who really
needs JHSC Certification Training?
The Law in
Ontario - Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Section 9 (12) - requires that ALL
workplaces that regularly employ 20 or more
workers must have a health and safety
committee and at least one Management and one
Worker Representative of that committee must
receive 'Certification' by Workplace Safety and
Insurance Board (WSIB) standards.
The
Occupational Health & Safety Act requires
that one worker and one management
member of each JHSC be certified. These
amendments were based on the recognition that
JHSC members require training to effectively
carry out their functions and support the
internal responsibility system in preventing
workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.
What is
the WSIB-approved Certification process?
For 'Part I', or 'BASIC'
Certification Training, we provide a 2-day
program using our Approved Certification
Training (A.C.T.) Program which targets the main
objectives of the certification standard. We
provide an adult learning environment that has
been carefully designed to foster a high level
of knowledge retention. At the end of our
workshop, your workers will feel confident
writing the WSIB certification evaluation.
Certification is a
2-part Training
Process Part One :
Completion of Basic Certification Training.
This training applies to all workplaces
where certified members are required, and
consists of four main components: 1. Health
and Safety Law 2. Hazard Identification and
Control 3. Investigation Techniques 4.
Prevention Resources Part Two :
Completion of Workplace-Specific Hazard
Training This training is be completed
on-site. To complete Part II the participant
must do the following: 1. To be
completed prior
to Part 2 training - conduct a
workplace hazard assessment to identify
significant hazards that will be discussed in
the Part II training. CSRinc will provide
more information on how to conduct this
assessment. 2. Forward hazard assessment
results to CSRinc prior to training. 3. Part
II training will be delivered based on the
results of the hazard assessments. The training
will cover WSIB requirements for Part II: http://www.wsib.on.ca/files/Content/Downloadable%20FileWSHT%20Guidelines/WSHTGuidelines.pdfSome
typical significant hazards that are identified
in an assessment are: Office
Ergonomics Slips,
Trips & Falls
Manual Material
Handling Equipment and Process
Safety
Chemical
Safety
Indoor Air
Quality 4. To
compete the Part II training the participants
will be required to fill out an 'action plan'
for each significant hazard that they
identified and discuss the findings of the
'action plan' with their JHSC and employer.
5. A confirmation of Part II training
form will then be sent to
WSIB. Both Part I & Part II
Certification Training and Workplace-Specific
Hazard Training must meet the strict training
standards as set out by the WSIB. Our
in-house, proprietary training programs at
Complete Safety Resources meet or exceed these
government standards. What Will I
Learn?The outcome of certification
training is that certified members will have the
knowledge and skills needed to fulfill the
legislated duties of a certified member. This
includes supporting their internal responsiblity
system in preventing occupational injuries and
illness, assessing and eliminating hazards, and

performance. The delivery of the Complete
